JIMMA MEDICAL INITIATIVE – FAQ

Learn more about Jimma Medical Initiative and our work in Ethiopia.

What is Jimma Medical Initiative?

Jimma Medical Initiative is a medical nonprofit initiative focused on strengthening access to neurosurgical care in Ethiopia. Since 2024, we have worked alongside Ethiopian healthcare professionals and hospitals through surgical care, medical education, mentorship, knowledge exchange, equipment support, and long-term capacity building.

Where does Jimma Medical Initiative operate?

Our work is centered in Ethiopia, including collaboration with healthcare professionals and institutions in Jimma and Addis Ababa.

We work directly with local medical teams so that every mission responds to identified clinical, educational, and resource needs.

What does my donation support?

Donations help advance the work of Jimma Medical Initiative and may support areas such as surgical missions, medical equipment and supplies, professional education, training, mentorship, mission logistics, and other resources needed to strengthen neurosurgical services.

Our aim is to use donor support where it can contribute to meaningful and sustainable impact.

Why is neurosurgical support needed in Ethiopia?

Neurosurgical conditions can require highly specialized professionals, equipment, operating facilities, and ongoing clinical resources.

Jimma Medical Initiative works with Ethiopian healthcare professionals to help expand access to specialized care while strengthening local capacity through education, mentorship, equipment support, and professional collaboration.

Do you only provide surgeries?

No. Surgical care is only one part of our mission.

We believe sustainable change also requires education, mentorship, knowledge exchange, equipment, professional collaboration, and long-term capacity building.

Our goal is to support Ethiopian healthcare professionals not only during a mission, but also in strengthening the systems and expertise that remain long after visiting teams leave.

How do you work with Ethiopian healthcare professionals?

Our approach is based on partnership.

We work alongside Ethiopian physicians, surgeons, nurses, trainees, and other healthcare professionals through collaborative patient care, practical education, mentorship, professional knowledge exchange, and support for essential medical resources.

Local healthcare professionals are central to the work—not simply recipients of outside assistance.

Can medical professionals volunteer?

Jimma Medical Initiative welcomes interest from healthcare professionals who share our commitment to respectful, collaborative, and sustainable medical service.

Opportunities may vary depending on the needs of individual missions, participating hospitals, specialties required, and available positions.

Healthcare professionals interested in contributing can contact our team to learn about future opportunities.

Can I donate medical equipment or supplies?

Potentially, yes. Medical equipment and supplies can play an important role in strengthening local neurosurgical capacity.

However, donations should match the actual needs of our hospital partners and be appropriate for the local clinical environment.

Please contact Jimma Medical Initiative before arranging an equipment or supply donation so our team can determine whether the proposed items are currently needed and suitable.

Can organizations or hospitals partner with you?

We welcome conversations with hospitals, medical institutions, universities, healthcare professionals, nonprofit organizations, foundations, corporations, and other groups interested in supporting our mission.

Partnership opportunities may include medical education, equipment support, sponsorship, professional exchange, fundraising, research collaboration, and mission support.

Contact our team to discuss partnership opportunities.

How can I support Jimma Medical Initiative?

There are several ways to make a difference.

You can support the initiative by making a financial contribution, helping raise awareness, participating in fundraising efforts, exploring professional or institutional partnerships, contributing appropriate medical resources, or connecting our mission with individuals and organizations that share our goals.

Every meaningful partnership helps us move toward stronger and more sustainable neurosurgical care in Ethiopia.
